Terms of Service
Last updated: April 2026
1. Service
Commonplace is a self-hosted instance of Commonplace, open-source software for creating and sharing federated link collections. By using this service you agree to these terms.
2. Accounts and identity
You authenticate using an existing Fediverse or AT Protocol account. We do not issue passwords. You are responsible for the security of your upstream account. We store your handle, display name, and avatar solely to identify you on this instance.
3. Acceptable use
You may not use this service to share content that is illegal, that infringes copyright, that constitutes harassment or targeted abuse, or that violates our Code of Conduct. Collections and resources are subject to moderation. We reserve the right to remove content and suspend accounts that violate these terms.
4. Federation
Public collections are shared across the Fediverse (ActivityPub) and Bluesky (AT Protocol). When you publish a public collection or add a link to one, that content may be delivered to followers on other servers outside our control. Unlisted and members-only collections are not federated.
5. Content removal
You can delete your account and all associated content at any time from your account settings. We will also process removal requests submitted via the report form or takedown request form.
6. Availability
We provide this service on a best-effort basis. We do not guarantee uptime and are not liable for data loss or service interruptions. Regular backups are your own responsibility if you are self-hosting.
7. Software licence
The server software is open source under AGPL-3.0. The terms above govern use of this instance, not the software itself.
8. Changes
We may update these terms. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance. If the changes are material, we will announce them via the instance description or admin notice.
